Where is the inpatient rehab unit located?
The St. Joseph Rehab Unit is located on the first floor
of the St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center at 1600 Joseph
Drive (across from the Blinn College campus) in Bryan,
Texas.
What are the admission criteria for the rehab unit?
Many factors are considered in determining if you need
inpatient rehab following your illness or injury. Listed
below are specific Medicare criteria that must be met:
Inpatient rehabilitation is a post acute care program consisting of therapies designed to improve a patient’s independence in the areas of mobility, self-care activities (bathing, dressing, household management), and cognitive skills (understanding information). The goal of the rehab program is to return patients to a community living setting with the highest level of independence possible after an illness or injury. At St. Joseph, we have semi-private rooms for our patients receiving inpatient rehabilitation to encourage social interaction and fellowship, as well as private rooms for those who require or request them. Inpatient rehabilitation therapy is an intensive multi-disciplinary treatment approach for patients with conditions such as brain injury, stroke, cardiac and post-orthopedic surgery (hip, back/spine). You will receive at least two types of therapy for a minimum of three hours a day 5-6 days per week. These therapies include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. Other services offered on an as needed basis are respiratory therapy, nutritional counseling, neuropsychology, and recreational activities. The rehabilitation team works together to develop an individualized rehabilitation program for each patient. While on the rehab unit your care is overseen by our rehabilitation physician.
St. Joseph Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit evaluates its program through UDSmr (Uniform Data Systems for Medical Rehabilitation). Quarterly information is received comparing our facility to 887 other facilities nationwide. FIM (Functional Independence Measure) scores are utilized in rating the patients functional abilities upon admission and discharge. These scores help to determine the patient’s length of stay as well as are a measure of improved function during the rehab stay. FIM scores measure the patient's functional status in 18 different areas including self-care, mobility, cognition and bowel/bladder control. FIM scores range from 1 (total care) to 7 (independent). SJRC is able to utilize the data for identification of program excellence and need for improvement.
