Cancer treatment options from people who care.
Our caring, compassionate team never forgets that behind every chart is a person who needs words of encouragement as much as they need innovative cancer treatment. At St. Joseph Cancer Center, we treat every patient as if they were a member of our own family. Most of the nurses in our Cancer Center are OCN certified by the Oncology Nursing Society.
The ONLY nationally accredited Breast Center of Excellence in the Brazos Valley.
As the ONLY nationally accredited Breast Center of Excellence in the Brazos Valley, St. Joseph has earned this designation through our devotion to patient-centered care, including exceptional standards in our research, technology, medicines, and staff.
A program of the American College of Surgeons, the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) challenges breast cancer centers to enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs and measuring the quality of the care they deliver against national standards.
The St. Joseph Cancer Center specializes in the most advanced forms of radiation therapies for cancer treatment, helping thousands of cancer patients get better every year. St. Joseph radiation cancer specialists—including physicians, physicists, biologists, therapists and safety experts—are among the most skilled cancer specialists in the planning and delivery of radiation cancer treatment. We work closely with a full multidisciplinary team, meeting at St. Joseph tumor boards each week, and creating personalized radiation plans that are safe and effective.
Our radiation therapy program for cancer treatment is recognized for:
- Over 100 Stereotactic Radiosurgery cases treated successfully
- Consistently using SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy) to treat non cranial tumors such as liver, lung and spine
- Conducting Prostate Brachytherapy as a day stay procedure
Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and stop them from spreading. It is considered a local treatment because only cells in the area being treated are affected. Radiation therapy targets fast dividing cancer cells and disrupts or destroys these cells from continuing to grow and spread throughout the body. Our goal is always to highly target cancer cells using the most advanced techniques for the least possible negative affect on healthy cells.
Hematology, chemotherapy, and other medical cancer treatments.
In many cases, your treatment may require methods other than radiation. The cancer specialists at St. Joseph Cancer Center offer a variety of alternate methods of treatment, as needed. Additional medical therapies for cancer include:
- Bone marrow and stem cell transplants
- Chemotherapy drugs
- Other types of anti-cancer drugs
- Palliative medicine for cancer pain
The St. Joseph Cancer Center bone marrow stem cell transplant team regularly performs some of the most complex stem cell transplants in the field of cancer treatment. St. Joseph’s bone marrow stem cell transplant team includes specialists in hematology oncology (blood disorders and cancers), infectious disease, intensive care, blood bank, transplant pharmacy, transplant coordination, nursing, and social work.
Medical Oncology and Chemotherapy at St. Joseph is managed by a team of cancer doctors who specialize in the medical management of disorders of the blood (hematology) and cancer (oncology). Medical oncology doctors also specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic (blood and lymph node) disorders such as leukemia and lymphoma.
Our medical oncologists lead in the research and development of new medical therapies for cancer treatment. The St. Joseph Cancer Center offers the most advanced medical treatments available for certain types of cancer. And our Pathology Lab is CAP certified.
Biological therapy involves the use of living organisms, substances derived from living organisms, or laboratory-produced versions of such substances to treat disease. Some biological therapies for cancer use vaccines or bacteria to stimulate the body’s immune system to act against cancer cells. For patients with cancer, biological therapies may be used to treat the cancer itself or the side effects of other cancer treatments.
Pain management through expert palliative care is a crucial part of what we do at St. Joseph. Palliative care during and after cancer treatment is about applying the science of medicine, with the heart, compassion, and skill of caring. Our focus is on reducing pain and suffering while promoting comfort and quality of life during this most difficult time.
