AARP Driver Safety Course
The mission of the American Association of Retired Persons; AARP Smart Driver Course, in partnership with the American Hospital Association (AHA), and its membership, is to help drivers update their knowledge and skills, prevent traffic accidents and violations and maintain mobility and independence.
The AARP Smart Driver Course includes updated manuals, instructor manuals, course videos and a new student handbook filled with current driver related research information. This course is a classroom refresher especially designed to meet the needs of older drivers. It covers age-related phsyical changes, declining perceptual skills, rules of the road, local driving problems and license renewal requirements.
AARP Members need to provide proof of membership to get the discounted rate. Insurance discounts are available with proof of course completion. Ask your insurance agent for details. It is important to note that this course does NOT remove traffic tickets from your driving record.
Developed by AARP in 1970, theSmart Driver Course was the first, and is now the largest comprehensive classroom refresher course available nationwide to motorists.
Smart Driver Course Curriculum.
The course is offered in a four hour time block over a one-day period. It covers the following areas:
- Self Assessment
- Vision, Hearing and Driving situations
- Normal Driving
- Hazardous Driving environments
- Driving Guidance
- The Vehicle
- Alcohol and Medications
- Driving Decisions

$15 for AARP Members
$20 for Non-Members
Refunds will only be granted if cancellation is received within two working days prior to the course. Registration form and payment must be received prior to course to be enrolled.
