Dr. David Segrest grew up in Waco. Desiring to help others in need, after attending Baylor University, he continued his education at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston. Dr. Segrest completed a surgery internship at Vanderbilt University and internal medicine and family medicine residencies at the Baylor College of Medicine affiliated teaching hospitals, in Houston.
As a family medicine practitioner, Dr. Segrest enjoys helping patients with real-life problems. He and his wife have called Bryan-College Station home since 1975. For two years, from 2007-2009, the couple temporarily uprooted to live in Ethiopia as part of a mission team. Dr. Segrest performed medical mission work while his wife taught math at a mission school. It’s an experience Dr. Segrest counts among some of his most professionally rewarding experiences.
Dr. Segrest says he joined St. Joseph because of its Christian medical environment and support for the sanctity of life. He believes the St. Joseph difference can be seen in the way doctors and staff view patients: as made in God’s image, with infinite value, starting at conception and continuing through a person’s life.
He and Rebecca have been married for 45 years. They have three sons and seven grandchildren. The Segrests attend Grace Bible Church. In his free time, Dr. Segrest likes to spend time with his family and friends, walk, study the Bible, read and travel with Rebecca.
