What is a Physical Therapist?
Physical Therapists maintain, restore and improve mobility, functional ability and increase quality of life for people of all ages by utilizing exercise/strength equipment, therapeutic modalities and manual therapy. Physical Therapists employed in the state of Texas must obtain a State license, requiring a degree from an accredited physical therapy program and passing score on State examination. Physical therapists often consult and practice with a variety of other health care professionals and may treat a wide range of ailments or specialize in areas.
Physical Therapists conduct a client examination and evaluation in order to determine whether physical therapy services are needed and to develop the treatment plan. Physical Therapists often teach clients how to use assistive and adaptive devices, such as crutches, prostheses and wheelchairs. They may also educate clients on exercises that can be performed at home to expedite their recovery.
