Bellville Hospital Foundation
The Bellville Hospital Foundation is a duly recognized 501(c) 3 tax exempt entity formed in 1959. Its principal function is to provide charitable financial support to Bellville St. Joseph Health Center, formerly known as Bellville General Hospital.
Over the years the Bellville Hospital Foundation has been instrumental in raising substantial funds for the expansion of the hospital, leading the campaign in 1973 to raise funds for the construction of the present hospital. Chairing that campaign back then was a local businessman, Robert J. Lange, who continues to serve on the Foundation board and continues to be actively involved in soliciting funds for the Foundation. The 1973 campaign was not just a success, but a remarkable success...the hospital was built without the infusion of government grants or funds.
The Bellville Hospital Foundation has also played a major role in raising charitable funds to build the former free-standing clinic building; assisted in recruiting physicians; and purchased necessary medical equipment such as the PACS system, digital mammography and other patient service equipment at Bellville St. Joseph Health Center. It has also provided funding for continuing education requirements for nurses. Memorials, bequests, gifts and donations are the Foundation's primary source of revenue.
Fourteen years ago the Foundation began an annual golf tournament to raise funds. Since its inception the event has netted almost $900,000. Now named in honor of a good friend to the hospital and foundation, C. Gaylen Ackley, the event attracts donors, golfers and supporters from across the state of Texas who come together to remember the independent telephone company pioneer and share his belief in the importance of supporting local healthcare in the primarily rural setting. This year's event will net the Foundation approximately $80,000.
The Bellville Hospital Foundation has committed $500,000 towards the construction of the new 3,500 square foot expansion of the Emergency Department at Bellville St. Joseph Health Center. Groundbreaking is slated to occur in mid-August, with completion targeted for February, 2015. The proceeds from the 2014 C. Gaylen Ackley Memorial Golf Classic are earmarked for this campaign, which also includes substantial donations from prominent Austin County landowners who may not live in the County full-time, but have discovered the peace and quiet of the countryside just minutes from their primary residences in the greater Houston area.
The Board of Directors of the Bellville Hospital Foundation is composed of eighteen men and women who share a belief in supporting the local hospital. Board membership is a mixture of longtime local residents and commonly referred to 'weekend-landowners', who understand the importance of supporting healthcare in 'their' community. These men and women work diligently to promote awareness and support of Bellville St. Joseph Health Center.
