Aquatic Therapy Program
Everyday movement can be difficult or painful for people who live with neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and other disorders. The Aquatic Therapy program at St Joseph Rehabilitation Center can improve your movement and quality of life. The use of aquatic therapy in rehabilitation offers a number of benefits to patients. The warmth and gentle support of the water offers an excellent environment for exercise, pain relief, improved circulation and control of swelling. Aquatic therapy is particularly effective since the buoyancy properties of water make exercising easier and safer to perform, the warm water relaxes muscles and joints, and the moving water within the pool creates a natural resistance to movement while challenging balance.
St Joseph’s Aquatic Therapy program offers physical and occupational therapy, and a wellness program which includes fitness classes that can help increase strength, mobility, balance and aerobic conditioning. Our aquatic team consists of physical and occupational therapists, physical and occupational therapist assistants, and exercise physiologists. We will provide you with a unique knowledge and experience. Our aquatic programs are designed to include use from senior citizens, adults, athletes, students, and children.
St Joseph’s Therapy Pool is a large and heated shallow pool. It has a heated spa with jet nozzles used for massaging your body and helping you relax tight muscles. The pool is wheelchair accessible and offers equipment for flotation, resistance and body positioning. Equipment includes an underwater treadmill, flotation belts, kickboards, and noodles as well as other resistive equipment including gloves, dumbbells, paddles, wings and much more. Please bring a bathing suit or shorts and a dark colored t-shirt (no cut-offs and no cotton) for all appointments. Locker rooms are available, as is a private two-person changing room for patients who need assistance. We ask if you do have special dressing needs, to please bring someone to assist you.
