Reverence

  • Treats every person with respect regardless of position or status.
  • Treats patients and family as a unit, realizing that illness affects not only the patient, but the entire family.
  • Is courteous and friendly toward everyone (in the halls, on telephones, answering patient's lights, etc.)
  • Shows special concern for the poor and disadvantaged.
  • Upholds the rights of the patient and family in all areas, especially the right to privacy, confidentiality, and respect for their lifestyle.
  • Involves the patient and family in decision-making processes for health care choices.
  • Shows concern for patients and family during admission by explaining policies and programs clearly.
  • Calls patients and family by their preferred name and upholds the reputation of co-workers.
  • Provides interpreters for persons who do not understand or speak English; provides bilingual written materials where appropriate.
