Are You a Good Candidate?

Obesity is medically defined by an individual's body mass index (BMI). BMI is calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by his or her height in square meters.

You may be a good candidate for surgery if...

  • You are 100 pounds or more overweight
  • You have a BMI of 40
  • You have a BMI of 35 with serious health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, joint problems, etc.

In addition, good candidates demonstrate a willingness to accept the risk of surgery and to make dramatic changes in your lifestyle, dietary habits, exercise and be willing to commit to medical follow-up.

To learn if bariatric surgery is right for you, call the Surgical Weight Loss Office at 979.821.7556 or 800.914.0745. We can provide you with basic information about bariatric surgery and help determin if you are a candidate for surgery. We can also mail you an information packet about our program that will explain how you can begin your journey towards improved health and wellness. You may also pre-register to attend a free Surgical Weight Loss Seminar.
