Dizzy and Balance Program

The Dizzy and Balance Program is a new and innovative evidence-based program designed to address balance, dizziness, gait (walking pattern), and fall prevention to improve one’s walking and daily function.  The program specializes in providing vestibular therapy while also utilizing traditional therapy techniques.  We are committed to providing each patient with the education, treatment, and skills to help improve balance and decrease dizziness.

Dizziness and balance disorders can be debilitating and frustrating.  Having problems with dizziness and balance can limit driving, working, sports, walking, or simply getting out of bed.   A large portion of the population suffers from dizziness at some time in life.  If you are experiencing any of these problems, we are here to help.

We have successfully treated the following signs/symptoms:

  • Dizziness or vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • Imbalance or disequilibriumHeadaches
  • Falls
  • Decreased strength and endurance
  • Neck pain

We have also successfully treated the following conditions:

  • Acoustic Neuroma
  • Ototoxicity, Labyrinthitis
  • Meniere’s Syndrome
  • BPPV, Otolith Dysfunction
  • Bilateral & Unilateral Vestibular Dysfunctions
  • Neurological Disorders (stroked, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s)
  • Physical Deconditioning
  • Concussion

Our Strategies and Treatment
We utilize research-based assessment and treatment methods for maximal benefit of our patients. This program uses a specialized exercise approach to alleviate dizziness symptoms associated with the inner ear and improve balance strategies to prevent falls.  Diagnostic equipment including computerized balance testing, fall risk assessments, and videonystagmography (a method used to examine involuntary eye movement) is used to measure each patient’s initial condition and progress.  Our physical therapists work closely with audiologists, ENT physicians, and other physicians to develop an appropriate individualized program for each person based on testing and evaluations.

Getting Treatment
The Dizzy and Balance Program requires a physician referral.  Patients are encouraged to share this information with their physician and discuss if they would benefit from this program.
