When do I call the Coumadin Clinic?

  • If you need to reschedule an appointment
  • If you have a change in your medications
  • If you must stop your Coumadin for a procedure
  • If your doctor takes you off Coumadin
  • If you are hospitalized or go to the ER
  • If you have any signs or symptoms of bleeding
  • If you fall, hit your head, or have any head trauma (difficulty with speech, visual changes)
  • If you have headaches
  • If you become pregnant
  • If you have any questions at all

What are the signs and symptoms of bleeding?
The biggest side effect of taking Coumadin is the increased risk for bleeding. It is very important to let your doctor or the Coumadin Clinic know if you have any of the following signs or symptoms. If you cannot reach the Coumadin Clinic or physician, go to the nearest ER.

  • Whites of eyes turn red
  • Coughing or spitting up blood
  • Bloody emesis
  • Large bruises not related to trauma
  • Increased bleeding when brushing teeth
  • Red or dark brown urine
  • Red or tar-black stools
  • Increased menstrual flow
  • Any unusual bleeding
