Since 1928, when Dr. J. A. Neely and Dr. H. E. Roesch established our hospital, we have been caring for our neighbors and our friends with the same care and compassion that country doctors possessed in the years of "horse & buggy" days. In April, 2013, Bellville General Hospital ushered in a new era of healthcare for the people we serve as BGH formally became Bellville St. Joseph Health Center. It was a significant milestone in the history of the 85-year old hospital. Now part of the St. Joseph Health System of Bryan, Texas, Sylvania Franciscan Health of Toledo, Ohio and the sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, the local hospital embraced the Catholic healthcare ministry and welcomed the change with some 200 hospital supporters attending the formal Blessing and Dedication Ceremony on a bright sunny spring afternoon.
While we remember with pride our history and heritage, we are cognizant of the ever-changing healthcare industry, continually adding services and equipment, which will better serve the patient needs of our growing community.
In the Franciscan Tradition, out of reverence for the dignity of every person, our mission is to provide excellent health care and promote wellness throughout the Brazos Valley.
Extending the healing ministry of Jesus, the St. Joseph Health System reflects God's love and compassion by providing excellent healthcare.
Reverence - We believe that each person is created equal in God's image and likeness. Therefore, we treat each person with respect, justice and dignity.
Service - We believe that each person is called to achieve full potential of mind, body and spirit. To enable the fulfillment of that potential, we pledge to render service to all with sensitivity, compassion and commitment.
Stewardship - We believe that each person shares responsibility to fulfill our specific role and to promote the proper utilization of the environment, of goods and services. This enables us to maintain quality relationships and care in our ministry.
Our HCAHPS Survey (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) results reflect what our patients perceive as quality healthcare. Released by the CMS (Medicare/Medicaid) last December, BVSJHC patients scored us consistently high when compared to the national average as well as our local area. BGH scored in the 95th percentile of all hospitals across the U.S. Locally, among our competitor group of 15 other hospitals in our nine county surrounding area, we were the ONLY hospital to achieve such a high ranking.
