MISSION AND CORE VALUES

The fundamental mission of each of the organizations in the St. Joseph Health System is to carry forward the mission of Jesus, the Christ of the Gospels. What is that mission? In Jesus' own words…"I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom."(Mark 1:38) and "I have come that you may have life and have it to the full."(John 10:10). Jesus' mission is about life, about Good News, about proclaiming the reign of God. And to his disciples Jesus said…"As the Father has sent me, so I send you."

Out of reverence for the dignity of every person, we become the bearers of Good News, the restoring presence of Jesus in our world, the promise of a hope-filled tomorrow. We actualize this by being a healing presence as we care for the sick and the infirm, the aging and the disadvantaged in our society. This is at the heart of our ministry-to heal as Jesus did; it gives direction to everything we do.

How do we do it? Our values serve as guides and a measure of how we live out this fundamental mission. In harmony with the values of the sponsors of our health system, the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio and our parent corporation, Franciscan Services Corporation, we strive to live the Franciscan core values of reverence, service, and stewardship.

REVERENCE
We believe that each person is created equal in God's image and likeness. Therefore, we treat each person with respect and dignity.    (examples)

SERVICE
We believe that each person is called to achieve full potential of mind, body and spirit To enable the fulfillment of that potential, we render service to all with sensitivity, compassion and commitment.    (examples)

STEWARDSHIP
We believe that persons who are poor have a special claim on our resources and that all of us share responsibility to fulfill our mission by properly utilizing goods, services and all of God's gifts. Therefore, we strive to act justly, while maintaining quality relationships and care in our ministry.    (examples)
